Chapter 4: Mind Your Grammar!

GRAMMAR, GRAMMAR!!! Basic essential to be mastered for us to effectively communicate and convey the right message to targeted audience. It is the basic fundamental in communication and writing. If you don't get your GRAMMAR right, you'll never be going to get the communication right. It's very crucial to learn GRAMMAR and really have ZERO GRAMMAR ERROR to make sure the communication is not misinterpreted and both parties have the same understanding in the communication.

People usually judge you based on your grammars. If you do not have good grammar in writing or communicating, people tend to judge you as an under educated person because you cause the communication to be on edge of crashing. It is very important that a person should really MIND THEIR GRAMMAR so that the communication can go smooth like a pearl.

There are a few factors that you should consider to mind your grammars.

  1. Clause
  2. Sentence
  3. Verb
  4. Noun
  5. Adjective\
  6. Pronoun
  7. Interjection
  8. Preposition
  9. Adverb
  10. Conjunction

There is something called Subject-Verb Agreement.
  • Rule 1: Basic Principle
    • Singular subjects need singular verbs; plural subjects need plural verbs.
  • Rule 2:
    • The indefinite pronouns anyone, everyone, someone, no one, nobody are always singular and, therefore, require singulars verbs.
  • Rule 3:
    • Some indefinite pronouns such as all, some are singular or plural depending on what they're referring to. (Is the thing referred to countable or not?)
    • Be careful choosing a verb to accompany such pronouns.
  • Rule 4:
    • Phrases such as together with, 'as well as', and 'along with' are not the same as 'and'.
    • The phrase introduced by 'as well as' or 'along with' will modify the earlier word ( mayor in this case), but it does not compound the subjects (as the word and would do).
Then we talk about Punctuation. It is used to clarify the meaning of what is written.
  • Full Stop (.), Question Mark (?), Exclamation Mark (!), Commas (,), Semi-Colons (;), Colons (:), Hyphens (/), Dashes (-), and Apostrophes (').
Lastly, always remember to be sure that you don't get yourself caught with Confused Words.
Commonly confused words are for examples:
  1. Accept vs Except
  2. Affect vs Effect
  3. Ensure vs Insure
  4. Less vs Fewer
  5. Practice vs Practise
  6. Principal vs Principle
  7. Some times vs Sometimes vs Sometime
  8. Stationary vs Stationery
Personal sharing of the week
I'm a person who can always remain chill when it hit closer to due date, next week is the time that we should be submitting our assignments for all the modules of this English Intensive Programme. Well, to be honest, I'm very pissed for these recent days especially when it get closer to due dates because I'm not seeing any progress of others assignment especially those that requires us to write reports. None of my members is initiating it when I've already done most of the difficult jobs already.

I'm very tired in this week because I had slept less than 16 hours for this whole week, almost every night I'm spending my time to finish up assignments, having sleepless night is really tiring. But nevermind because throughout these few nights, I've equipped with some new knowledge and skills. this free programme will be coming to an end very soon, I hope that some of my friends can really wake up now and start doing what they as a student should be doing. To those free-riders, please be more considerate, if you don't learn yourself, don't ask help from us. "Learning is the learner's responsibility", which is once said by Mr. Ernie Chen. You guys were in the class too, it's time to really wake up, that's not the right attitude you should be having when you're getting closer and closer to graduate and eventually be in the real world, that kind of attitude is SUICIDING!

STOP TAKING THINGS FOR GRANTED, it's time to do things that you think you should be doing. Advice that I would like to say, "FOCUS, STAY IN YOUR LANE!"

Alright, hope this could be helpful for you peeps, continue to improve your English alright mates? HOOYAHHH!
